The pkg repositories have now been updated to included the 2009.06 pkgs (What's New preso - PDF). There is no need to perform a clean install, you can just use the Update Manager GUI to update your OpenSolaris 2008.11 release to 2009.06. There is one teeny weeny issue that you may encounter - the Update Manager GUI may tell you that there are no new pkgs available. I'm a little late on this, but OpenSolaris 2008.11 is now available for all to download and includes loads of new things including Fast Reboot and a really cool feature - Time Slider - aka Time Machine for OpenSolaris, but using ZFS.

OpenSolaris 2008.11 RC was pushed out late Friday evening, so time to get updating. One of the most notable bug fixes is the larger than expected memory requirements that RC1 had (bug 3597). There is also an automated installer image so you can get experimenting with the new automated installer functionality (aka Jumpstart for OpenSolaris) that will become available for the first time with OpenSolaris 2008.11.

If you're eager to get your hands on OpenSolaris 2008.11, then you can get testing with the release candidate. It's been decided/announced that snv_101a will be the release candidate for 2008.11, and as is common the announcement includes details on how you can update and get testing now. Please note, this release has a minimum memory requirement of 768Mb for the installer to work (Dave Miner thinks it's probably actually in the region of about 580Mb for those with VMs) at the moment, though this is being worked on in an attempt to bring it back down below 512Mb before ... OpenSolaris has now been updated to build 93, which I believe is actually the preview build for OpenSolaris 2008.11 (though this may change), and best of all ISOs are being generated again and are available via BitTorrent. Unfortunately, you still can't update via the Package Manager so you need to update via the CLI as before, but be sure to update your IPS software revision first, just to be safe.
